Here we go!

Hi there!

I'm Annie Austen and I'm so excited to have you here! Things are still pretty new around these parts but I think you'll really like what you find once we get this new adventure started. I won't pretend like I know exactly where this journey is taking all of us but I can promise it's going to be a fun ride.
Also, a little disclaimer: Contrary to popular belief, I don't consume much caffeine but my brain does work a bit like a search engine without pop-up blocker enabled. You've been warned.

I've been trying for months to figure out what I want to chat about in this first post. By now I thought I'd have something perfectly nailed down, I thought I'd be able to come here and say "Hi there! This is who I am and this is exactly what you can expect when you follow along!"
(but so far I just got the "Hi there!" part out).

I've come to the realization that, if a blog is anything like life, it's not quite that perfect.
And that's okay because even imperfect things can be really, really fun!
Let's go ahead and chat through some of the basics. As previously mentioned, Hi! I'm Annie! I'm an NPR-loving Kansas Citian who can usually be found wearing winged eyeliner and pretending I'm on HGTV while decorating (or redecorating) our 1908 shirtwaist-style house in South Hyde Park.
I love enthusiasm, floral everything, cherry vanilla Diet Coke, obscure references to The Office,
and gold (like the color, not in a weird King Midas way).
There are a few others on this journey with me that you should definitely know about:
- Corey (a.k.a. Hubs): my seriously supportive, goofy, kind, and loving better half
- Our furry squad (Teaka, Finnegan, Rodney, Polly, and Cheese - don't worry, there will be a test)
- Tay: my Jose Peppers-loving, friendtographer (and real life photographer),
therapist, and cheerleader
- Lucie (a.k.a. Goose), Matthew, & Ma: seester, bubbs, & mother

A couple other important things, I've broken the blog down into a few sections
I'd really like to write more about and my goal is to post at least once a week on Wednesdays!
This first week I'm going to add a few extra posts so that you all can get a taste for
what to expect here so be on the lookout.

Let's talk more about those sections you see up top:

Think beauty, style, makeup, hair, and self-care.
I'm really, really excited about this section!

Be it a trip to a new restaurant or a new city, we'll chat about it here!
I can promise lots of food posts, dog park reviews,
and best-places-to-read-a-book-in-Kansas-City lists!

All things home decor, home cooking, home repair (I'll let Hubs write those),
home DIY, and home ownership (SCARY)

I had every intention of using a ridiculous pun here (Anniecdotes instead of Anecdotes) but a higher power prevented me (a.k.a. the width of my pages section on mobile). Here's where I'll throw some life posts at ya - you can expect family stories, lots of furry squad pictures, and what my book club is reading that month (we should totally start an online book club too)!

I've also included a link to our Etsy Shop just in case you're interested!
Corey and I have been talking a lot about goals lately (it is the start of a new year!) and, although I don't have concrete ones, here are a few I'd like to focus on.

On this new adventure I'd like to:

- Embrace authenticity (even if my authentic self is a bit eclectic)
- Challenge myself to try new things - fashion, hobbies, crafts, food, all of it!
- Be more in the moment and learn to surround myself with as much laughter,
beauty, and hope as possible
- Focus on connecting with and giving back to others
- Become a tourist in our own city
Goal setting is a thing I'd really like to keep doing on here. Then, maybe eventually, I can start setting more specific goals with timelines and all that fancy stuff! Gosh, I already feel more responsible.

I think I warned you at the beginning this post might be a tad bit enthusiastic and a little scatterbrained. But, if you're okay with a lot of exclamation points, a few made up words, and a healthy dose of obscure references I think you're going to be pretty happy here.

I know I've gotten happier just writing this all down... and it's only going to get better from here!
